Think Pink? Is Pink Himalayan Salt Good for Your Health?

Pink Himalayan salt has become increasingly popular in recent years as a healthy alternative to traditional table salt. Many health enthusiasts swear by its potential health benefits, claiming that it is a healthier, more nutrient-rich version of regular salt. But is pink Himalayan salt really as beneficial as its proponents suggest? 

Is Himalayan pink salt good for you? Well, it sure is pretty… and there’s no denying that it’s gorgeous coral tones can evoke some positive, sunshiny thoughts! But is it actually healthy to eat? 

Proponents of pink Himalayan salt claim that it is much healthier than regular table salt. They cite its trace mineral content, which includes calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron. They also point to its purported ability to regulate blood pressure and reduce water retention. These benefits stem from its mineral content, which is said to be higher than that of regular table salt.

On the other hand, some experts are skeptical of these purported benefits. They argue that pink Himalayan salt is no more nutritious than table salt, and that its higher mineral content is not enough to make a significant difference in one’s diet. Furthermore, some argue that the consuming too much salt, regardless of its source, can lead to health problems such as high blood pressure, stroke, and heart disease. In Dr. Paul Drago’s professional take — both as a wellness coach and as a medical professional — Himalayan pink salt contains an equal amount of sodium to common table salt and should be used in moderation… as are most things, of course.  But while Himalayan pink salt may not necessarily be ‘healthier’ for you, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with its own unique benefits!

  • Better pH balance in the body
  • Reduced signs of aging
  • Improvement in sleep quality
  • Regulation of blood sugar

Himalayan table salt can be a beneficial addition to a healthy diet when eaten in moderation. It is a natural source of essential minerals such as magnesium, potassium, and calcium, which can help promote better overall health. Furthermore, Himalayan table salt is free of additives and preservatives, so it is a healthier alternative to processed table salt. For these reasons, Himalayan table salt is a great option to enjoy in moderation.
