Working from home can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it offers the flexibility to work on our own terms, on our own schedule, and in the comfort of our own homes. On the other hand, it can be difficult to stay motivated and productive when we’re not in an office environment. In order to maintain mental health, it's important to take time to practice self-care.
Dr. Drago recommends 5 tactics to help you stay well and productive while working from home.
1. Establish a routine.
An important part of maintaining wellness is having a consistent routine. Set a daily routine that works for you and stick to it. This will help you stay focused and productive throughout the day.
2. Prioritize movement.
Moving your body can help you stay energized and productive. Take regular breaks throughout the day to get up and move. This can be going for a walk, stretching, or doing some light exercise. In fact, Dr. Paul Drago recommends going on walks every work day as a much needed moment to relax and recharge.
3. Unplug when you’re off the clock.
It can be tempting to work late into the night when you’re working remotely, but it’s important to disconnect from work and give yourself time to relax and unwind. Make sure to set boundaries and stick to them.
4. Eat healthy and stay hydrated.
Eating healthy and staying hydrated is important for overall wellness. Take time to make healthy meals and snacks and make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
5. Take time for yourself.
Make sure to schedule time for yourself each day. This can be anything from reading a book, taking a bath, or just taking a few minutes to breathe and relax.
Working from home can be a great opportunity, but it’s important to prioritize your physical and mental wellbeing. Incorporating these simple tips into your work from home routine can help you stay productive and well.
